A DAY AT THE RACES
Which Enclosure?
Racecourses are divided up into different enclosures to suit different tastes and budgets. You can often pay for admission on the day, but booking is essential for larger meetings.Children under 16 are admitted FREE at the vast majority of Racecourses and whilst facilities do vary, this guide should help you work out the deal for you.
MEMBERS or PREMIER ENCLOSURE
This will be the top of the range enclosure, with tickets often generally costing between £15 and £30, although this will be higher at big racedays or festival meetings. These stands will have the best viewing and facilities, as well as giving you access to all the other public areas of the racecourse.
TATTERSALLS or GRANDSTAND AND PADDOCK
These will be the standard level deal, with charges ranging from roughly £12 to £16 (again, higher at major meetings). You will have access to the parade ring and winner’s enclosure as well as a good view of the track and plenty of eating, drinking and betting facilities.
SILVER RING or COURSE ENCLOSURE
These enclosures offer the best value option for enjoying a day at the races, with tickets often starting at around £5. Although there is no access to the parade ring or winner’s enclosure, there are usually betting and catering facilities. Many racecourses allow cars into the Course Enclosure, and picnicking is very popular.
