RCA Guide to Safety at Racecourses
RCA Guide to Safety at Racecourses, Consultation Draft (click to view file)

The RCA is seeking input to and comments on a draft safety guide that we have prepared for our member racecourses.

Whilst the Guide to Safety at Sports Grounds (The Green Guide) is built on evidence and experience, the Guide is prepared primarily with stadia events in mind, as it has its origins in reports that came out following stadia disasters. Racecourses are very different to stadia events, and further to the publication of the Fifth Edition of the Guide to Safety at Sports Grounds the RCA undertook to work with Local Authority representatives to produce an RCA Guide to Safety at Racecourses.

The racecourses have serious regard for their responsibility for crowd safety, and this guide has been written for the benefit of all racecourses to assist them in ensuring best practice with regard to crowd safety measures. It is hoped that the document will also assist Local Authority Officials and Safety Advisory Groups in understanding the application of the fundamental principles of the Green Guide to racecourses, assessing and improving safety measures at racecourses and calculating safe crowd capacities for individual areas and the racecourse as a whole.

We would appreciate any responses by Tuesday 6 April 2010. All responses should be sent to holly.robarts@racecourseassociation.co.uk
