Kauto Star Tribute Plans Revealed by Kempton Park
A ‘Kauto Star Bar’ is being created in the Clubhouse, while discussions are continuing about a statue that would be commissioned following the horse’s eventual retirement.
Kauto Star’s owner Clive Smith will conduct the official opening ceremony next month.
The Kauto Star Bar will be filled with memorabilia, including:
- Pictures of the horse’s five King George wins between 2006 and 2011;
- A set of his racing colours in glass;
- A Kauto racing plate;
- A framed ‘Kautograph’;
- A painting of the horse.
Amy Starkey, the racecourse’s managing director, said: “Kauto Star created history on Boxing Day by becoming the first horse to win the King George VI Chase five times.
“The legend of Desert Orchid – who won the King George four times - lives on at Kempton with a statue, a suite and a race named after him. Although Kauto Star is still racing, we’re creating the first of our tributes to him now because he already has a very special place in the hearts of racing fans.”
Kauto Star’s owner Clive Smith was delighted with the gesture by the Sunbury racecourse.
He said: “Kauto Star has captured the Kempton public’s imagination and it will be wonderful for visitors to be able to relax in the ‘Kauto Star Bar’ where so many great memories are recorded in words and pictures.”
