RACEGOERS CLUB ELECT CHELTENHAM AS RACECOURSE OF THE YEAR

Members of The Racegoers Club have elected Cheltenham as overall winner of the highly prestigious Racecourse of the Year Award. Cheltenham is clearly an extremely popular venue with Racegoers Club members, having now won this coveted award ten times in the last thirteen years.

With almost 6,500 keen and loyal racegoers countrywide, The Racegoers Club is the biggest racegoing club in the country. Competition for the awards has been strong due to the vast number of improvements made at many racecourses in the past year, and it is a superb achievement by all of the courses voted winners in the various categories.

The full list of regional awards is as follows:

Scotland & North East: Racecourse of the Year AYR
Best Small Racecourse PERTH

North: Racecourse of the Year YORK
Best Small Racecourse WETHERBY

North Midlands: Racecourse of the Year CHESTER
Best Small Racecourse MARKET RASEN

South Midlands & Racecourse of the Year CHELTENHAM
East Anglia Best Small Racecourse HUNTINGDON

South West: Racecourse of the Year NEWBURY
Best Small Racecourse WINCANTON

South East: Racecourse of the Year GOODWOOD
Best Small Racecourse FONTWELL PARK

Edward Gillespie, Managing Director at Cheltenham Racecourse commented, ““We’re delighted to be voted as Racecourse of the Year by the Racegoers Club for the tenth time in the last thirteen years. As the Racegoers Club is the largest racegoing club in the country it means a great deal to our entire team that its members continue to enjoy their racing experiences at Cheltenham. The Club is designed specifically to benefit racegoers, mainly via an admission concession scheme, at every British racecourse. This applies to 1,199 fixtures in 2006 – 86% of the fixture list. 32 courses offer discounts at all of their fixtures.
