Racegoers Club Supports the Lesters
Date: Thursday, 21 February 2008
The Racegoers Club is pleased to announce sponsorship of the 2007 Flat Jockey of the Year award to be presented at the Lesters Award ceremony on Thursday 20 March 2008. The sponsorship will run for three years, to also include the 2008 and 2009 awards. The Racegoers Club is the largest race going club in Britain, is supported by all British racecourses, and offers discounts of £3 up to £6 at nearly 90 % of British race meetings.
Stephen Atkin, Chairman of the Racegoers Club, expressing his delight at the sponsorship added “We are very pleased to link up with the Professional Jockeys Association as a new corporate partner. The profile of the flat jockey’s award has never been higher following the gripping battle between Seb Sanders and Jamie Spencer for the title.
The Club were keen to give something back to Racing and jockeys are of course, alongside the equine stars, the key attraction for racegoers. The Club has grown substantially over the past few years under the stewardship of the RCA and with the generous support of racecourses.”
Chief Executive of the Professional Jockeys Association Josh Apiafi said “The Racegoers Club has been a huge success since its inception and its backing of one our most prestigious awards at the Lesters is tribute to that success. The Executive Team and Presidents of the Professional Jockeys Association would like to thank Stephen Atkin and his team for their support and we look forward to welcoming their guests in Birmingham on March 20th”
This will be an exciting occasion that a few lucky Racegoers members will be able to share as the Club launches prize draws next week for new and existing members to win a place at the Racegoers Club Lester table to see their award being presented by RCA Chairman David Thorpe to the successful jockey.
The Club was set up to encourage more people to go racing, whilst at the same time getting more enjoyment from their racing by a greater involvement with the sport. In addition to the racecourse concession scheme, the Club offers social events, stable visits and racehorse syndicates. Single membership is only £20 for the year with double membership just £34. The Honorary President is former England cricketer captain Mike Atherton OBE.
The Racegoers Club is moving from strength to strength. When the RCA first took on the management of the club in 1999 there was only 1,500 members but by the end of 2007 membership stood at 6,000.
