Further to the publication of the fifth edition of the Guide to Safety at Sports Grounds (The Green Guide) the RCA worked in liaison with Licensing Authorities and professional advisors to develop the RCA Guide to Safety at Racecourse - a more specific document for racecourses. Whilst the Guide to Safety at Sports Grounds (The Green Guide) is built on evidence and experience, the Guide has its origins in stadia events and although revisions to the Guide seek to widen its scope, there is room for more sector specific guidance.
The racecourses have serious regard for their responsibility for crowd safety, and this guide has been written for the benefit of all racecourses to assist them in ensuring best practice with regard to crowd safety measures. It is hoped that the document will also assist Local Authority Officials and Safety Advisory Groups in understanding the application of the fundamental principles of the Green Guide to racecourses, assessing and improving safety measures at racecourses and calculating safe crowd capacities for individual areas and the racecourse as a whole.
