The Grade 2 jumps horse racing events are a high-class thoroughbred race that is one grade down from the elite-level grade 1 races.

Weight-for-Age is relevant again in Grade 2 races, with additional weight added if a horse has won in the past. Some events might also have a handicap applied.

Grade 2s are classified in the category of National Hunt Racing Class 1 contests along with Grade 1s, Grade 3s, and Listed races

There are 71 Grade 2 events on the British horse racing calendar: 35 over hurdles, 33 over fences, and three National Hunt flat bumper races.

Relkeel Hurdle

For horses five years of age or older, the Irish Grand National is a National Hunt steeplechase held in Ireland. The race is roughly three miles and five furlongs that it is run at Fairyhouse. Every year on Easter Monday, the handicap race is planned to occur.

Dipper Novices Chase

Horses five years of age or older are eligible to compete in the Grade 2 National Hunt chase in Great Britain, known as the Dipper Novices’ Chase. It covers a course of around 2 miles and 4½ furlongs on the New Course at Cheltenham. Every year on New Year’s Day, rookie chasers are eligible to compete in this race.

Silviniaco Conti Chase

Warfield Mares Hurdle

Fillies and mares four years of age or older are eligible to compete in the Grade 2 Warfield Mares’ Hurdle, a National Hunt hurdle competition held in Great Britain. It is run at Ascot over about two miles and seven and a half furlongs. Every year in January, the race is scheduled to occur.

Future Champion Novices Chase

Horses five years of age or older might enter the Future Champion Novices’ Chase, a Grade 2 National Hunt steeplechase held in Great Britain.

Silver Trophy Chase

Towton Novices Chase

Kingmaker Novices Chase

Horses five years of age or older can enter the Grade 2 National Hunt steeplechase in Great Britain, the Towton Novices’ Chase. It is ran around three miles at Wetherby.

Dovecote Novices Hurdle 

The Dovecote Novices’ Hurdle is a Grade 2 hurdle race, open to horses aged 4 years or above. It is run at Kempton Park over a distance of about 2 miles. The race is for novice hurdlers, and it is scheduled to take place each year in late February.

National Spirit Hurdle

The National Spirit Hurdle is a Grade 2 hurdle race open to horses aged four years or older. It is run at Fontwell Park over a distance of about 2 miles and 3 furlongs. The race is scheduled to take place each year in late February or early March.

National Hunt Novices Chase

The National Hunt Challenge Cup is a Grade 2 steeplechase for amateur riders, open to horses aged five years or older. It is run on the Old Course at Cheltenham over a distance of about 3 miles 6 furlongs. Mares Novices’ Hurdle

Open to fillies and mares four years of age or older, the Dawn Run Mares’ Novices’ Hurdle is a Grade 2 hurdle event that is sponsored under the Ryanair Mares’ Novices’ Hurdle name. It is held over a distance of around two miles and one furlong on Cheltenham’s New Course. It is an annual event that takes place in March during the Cheltenham Festival and is intended for beginner hurdlers.

Mares Chase

The Liberthine Mares’ Chase, currently run as the Mrs Paddy Power Mares’ Chase, is a Grade 2 chase, is open to mares aged five years or older. It is run on the New Course at Cheltenham over a distance of about 2 miles and 4½ furlongs. It is scheduled to take place each year during the Cheltenham Festival in March.

Midlands Grand National 

A Premier Handicap National Hunt race is the Midlands Grand National. It is a handicap steeplechase that takes place in March at Uttoxeter Racecourse. It is roughly 4 miles and 2 furlongs long. After listed status for handicap races was eliminated in 2023, the race was reclassified as a Premier Handicap beginning with the 2022 running.

Hampton Novices Chase

For horses five years of age or older, the Hampton Novices’ Chase is a Grade 2 National Hunt steeplechase. There are eighteen obstacles to leap during the three-mile course, which is run at Warwick. Held annually in January, the race is intended for inexperienced chasers.

Leamington Novices Hurdle
