Famous Corrib Fillies Stakes Winners

The Corrib Fillies Stakes was first run in 2012 with victory going to Jim Bolger and Kevin Manning with Lady Wingshot.

Dermot Weld struck the following season with Yellow Rosebud, ridden by the late Pat Smullen.

Weld became the first trainer to win the race twice when successful with Yulong Gold Fairy in 2018, this time with Shane Foley in the saddle.

The 2014 renewal went to Dalkova, trained by Johnny Murtagh. The same trainer took his tally to two Corrib Fillies Stakes wins with Champers Elysees. She went on to win the Fairy Bridge Stakes and the Group 1 Matron Stakes. She beat a good field including Fancy Blue, Peaceful and Albigna.

Surrounding completed a brilliant double, winning in 2019 and 2022. She was trained by Michael Halford and ridden by Ronan Whelan. Her win as a nine-year-old was her eleventh in total and took her career earnings over the £250,000 mark.

Key Corrib Fillies Stakes Trials

Surrounding had been placed in the Group 3 Brownstown Stakes at Fairyhouse on her previous start in 2022, a race which she had won prior to her first victory. Dalkova (2014) had been placed in the Cairn Rouge Stakes at Killarney on her previous start.

Laviniad (2015) had won a handicap at Gowran Park last time out before taking a step up in class.

Planchart (2016) had failed to stay the trip in the Naas Oaks Trial and stepped back in trip to win this prize for Andrew Slattery.

Corrib Fillies Stakes Betting Trends

There have been four winning outright favourites and one joint-favourite in the last ten years; Yellow Rosebud (2013), Music Box (2017 Joint-Favourite), Yulong Gold Fairy (2018), Surrounding (2019) and Champers Elysees (2020).

The longest-priced winner during that spell was Galtee Mist (2021) at 11-1.

Surrounding was one point shorter at 10-1 in 2022.

Three-year-olds have won five of the first eleven renewals. Surrounding won at the age of nine to show that age is no barrier to success in the Corrib Fillies Stakes.

Corrib Fillies Stakes – Top Trainers and Jockeys

This is a relatively new race so trainer and jockey stats are unclear.

Three trainers have won it twice so far; Dermot Weld, Johnny Murtagh and Michael Halford. Jockeys Declan McDonagh (Laviniad and Planchart) and Ronan Whelan (Surrounding) also have two winners apiece.
