Punchestown Ryanair Novice Chase

The Punchestown Ryanair Novice Chase is the Irish equivalent to the Cheltenham Arkle Chase.

The field frequently includes horses that have previously competed in the Arkle Challenge Trophy at Cheltenham, with Footpad being the most recent horse to win both races in 2018.

Race Overview

In Ireland, the Ryanair Novice Chase is a Grade 1 National Hunt Steeplechase open to horses aged five and up.

It is held at Punchestown over a distance of about 2 miles, with eleven obstacles to jump.

The race is for beginner chasers and takes place each year in late April or early May during the Punchestown Festival.
