Jockey Profile

Rex started his career in Pony Club and moved on to pony racing. He then rode work for point-to-point trainer David Phelan. He packed in as much equestrian activity as he could, point-to-point, show jumping and eventing. He had his first point-to-point ride at the age of 16 and then gained valuable experience with Neil Mulholland and David Pipe.

Rex’s next move took him to Anthony Honeyball and he turned conditional in 2018. He suffered a serious injury in May 2019 but returned to the saddle in September. He rode his first Cheltenham Festival winner aboard Indefatigable in the Martin Pipe Conditional Jockeys Hurdle 2020.

Rex Dingle – Key Jockey Stats

Dingle rode one winner from 17 rides in 2017-18. The following season he rode 33 winners, catching the eye of many observers as a rider of considerable promise. He rode 24 winners in each of the following two seasons, making the transition to professional jockey in 2021. He won 32 races in 2021-22 and is well on course to beat that total in 2022-23.

Rex Dingle Big Race Wins

Rex made his big breakthrough in the Martin Pipe Hurdle at the 2020 Cheltenham Festival on Indefatigable, trained by Paul Webber. He also won the Listed Mares NHF Final on Coquelicot. He rode out his claim when winning on Belle de Manech on Boxing Day 2021.

Another key victory for Dingle came on Morney Wing in the London National at Sandown for Charlie Mann. Then riding as a 7lbs claimer, he tracked the leader before taking up the running with three to jump. Dingle impressed on the nine-year-old, keeping him up to his work to repel Red Infantry by a length.

Rex Dingle’s Most Famous Victories

The most important victory of Dingle’s career to date came at the 2020 Cheltenham Festival. Riding 25-1 chance Indefatigable in the Martin Pipe Hurdle, his chances looked remote when niggling the mare along at the fourth last. The horse gradually picked up and made headway at the second last, running on strongly to catch Pileon in the shadow of the post.

Dingle initially felt that he had finished second but the photograph revealed that Indefatigable had prevailed by a short-head. The mare proved her class when winning the Grade 2 West Yorkshire Hurdle at Wetherby in 2021, this time with Daryl Jacob aboard. The young rider has also impressed a couple of times on Acey Milan. He rode the horse to finish second in the valuable Stayers Handicap Hurdle at Haydock in 2019 and won on him at Aintree in October 2020.

Summary

Rex Dingle has been highlighted by several shrewd judges as a jockey with a big future. Big race opportunities are few and far between at present but his services are likely to be increasingly in demand.
