His first winner under rules was My Girl Sophie for Jim Bolger at Leopardstown on 21 May 2008.

Danny Mullins

Mullins rode a treble on the flat at the 2008 Galway Festival. He finished runner-up in the Champion Apprentice title on the level but had difficulty keeping his weight down and made the switch to National Hunt racing.

He has ridden winners for both his father and mother at the same meeting on more than one occasion.

Danny has also ridden big race winners for top Irish trainer Willie Mullins including the King George VI Chase and the Irish Gold Cup in 2021.

Danny Mullins – Key Jockey Stats

Danny Mullins rode 29 winners on the flat in Ireland in 2009.

He started to make his mark as a jump jockey in 2012-13 with 19 winners.

He enjoyed his best season to date with 46 winners in 2016-17 but looks certain to pass that total in 2022-23.

Mullins has earned prize money for his owners of around one million euros for each of the past seven seasons, passing the million euro barrier for the first time in a season in 2019-20.

Danny’s first Cheltenham Festival winner was the 2021 Stayers’ Hurdle on Flooring Porter, trained by Gavin Cromwell.

Danny Mullins Big Race Wins

Two major highlights for Danny so far are the Irish Gold Cup victory on Kemboy and the King George VI Chase on Tornado Flyer.

Kemboy beat The Storyteller by two lengths at Leopardstown after making all the running.

His first Grade 1 victory was Mount Benbulben in the Champion Novice Chase in 2013.

Danny won two Grade 1’s on the novice hurdler The Tullow Tank in 2013 and the 2015 Boylesports Champion Chase aboard Felix Yonger.

Danny also won a listed hurdle at Auteuil in France on Fujimoto Flyer, trained by his Grand National-winning cousin Emmet Mullins.

He also won the American Grand National Hurdle Stakes in 2017 on Mr Hot Stuff.

His biggest wins on the flat have been in the Galway Mile. He won it on Rock and Roll Kid in 2009 and struck again in 2018 on Riven Light.

Danny Mullins’ Most Famous Victories

Danny picked up the ride on Flooring Porter in the 2021 Stayers’ Hurdle at Cheltenham as a last-minute replacement for regular rider Jonathan Moore. Danny retained the ride after his pillar-to-post success and repeated the performance in 2022. The horse seems to thrive on Cheltenham’s undulating track and pulled out extra in the home straight to repel Thyme Hill and Paisley Park.

Tornado Flyer’s 28-1 victory in the King George VI Chase came as a shock to most pundits with even Trainer Willie Mullins admitting he was pleasantly surprised. The stable appeared to have a more obvious candidate in 6-1 chance Asterion Forlonge who was beaten in second when falling at the final fence.

Summary of Jockey Danny Mullins

Danny Mullins has made the most of every opportunity that has come his way, often riding a second or third string for the powerful Willie Mullins stable.

There is no better judge of pace as he has shown when making all the running on dual Stayers’ Hurdle winner Flooring Porter and Irish Gold Cup winner Kemboy.
