The fourth day of the 2026 Glorious Goodwood Festival is on Friday.

Day four of the Glorious Goodwood meeting is one of the most popular and busiest days of the racing season with race-goers, punters and UK bookmakers.

Here are our tips for day four racing for the Qatar Glorious Goodwood Festival on Friday 29th July 2026:

Goodwood Handicap Stakes

The first race on the fourth day of Glorious Goodwood, the Goodwood Handicap Stakes, is a staying handicap over two miles and four and a half furlongs.

It is the season’s longest handicap on that trip in terms of distance.

In 2021, 20 runners entered, and the brilliant performer, Calling The Wind, took first place.

Bonhams Thoroughbred Stakes

The Group 3 Bonhams Thoroughbred Stakes is the first Group race of the day. It is exclusively open to three-year-olds and is run over a 1m distance.

Although some excellent horses had recently won the race, William Haggas’ Baaeed’s victory last year gave the race a significant boost.

Golden Mile Handicap

One of the best races of its kind during the season is the Golden Mile Handicap, which is open to horses aged three and above.

Ran over a distance of 1 mile, which includes the iconic undulating bend at the top of the Goodwood straight, emphasising the importance of track position.

This race serves as a natural follow-up for horses that compete in the Royal Hunt Cup at Royal Ascot. Maydanny won it last year and went on to win at the Listed level before the end of the season.

Watch out for Ryan Moore in this race as well; the top rider won it three times in a row between 2016 and 2018, but for different trainers each time.

King George Qatar Stakes

The highlight of the day often goes without saying, both because of the thrill of the build-up and the nature of the race.

Run over the 5-furlong trip, the Group 2 King George Stakes is renowned as the fastest race in Britain every year, due to the downhill nature of Goodwood’s track.

This race is open to horses aged three and over.

L’Ormarins Queen’s Plate Glorious Stakes

The day’s main event is promptly followed by the Glorious Stakes, a Group 3 race for horses aged four and over.

It is run over the 1m 4f Derby distance, which is ideal for seasoned middle-distance horses.

Nursery Handicap Stakes

The Nursery Handicap Stakes is a race open to horses aged two only.

The distance of this race is 6 furlongs long, and this is one of the final races of Day 4 at Glorious Goodwood.

TDN Australia Handicap Stakes

A handicap for three years caps Day 4.

It is run over the relatively unusual trip of 1m3f and is a 0-90 handicap, which gives slightly lower-rated horses a chance to shine.

Poet’s Word and Walton Street, Group 1 champions, won this in consecutive years in 2016 and 2017.
