Famous Donohue Marquees Juvenile Hurdle Winners
The Donohue Marquees Juvenile Hurdle was first run in 1988 with victory going to Marvellous Marvin, trained by John Mulhern and ridden by Tommy Carmody. The same rider enjoyed further success aboard Rocket Dancer (1990) and Visions Pride (1991), both trained by Noel Meade who has a fantastic record in this event.
Michael O’Brien won this race in 2004 with Essex, ridden by Davy Russell. He won the valuable Betfair Hurdle at Newbury the following season where he was backed down to 4-1 favourite. Essex was only beaten half a length by Brave Inca in the 2005 Morgana Hurdle. The versatile gelding also won the flat and over fences.
2011 winner Twinlight was another high class performer, trained by Willie Mullins. He won nine of his 27 races over fences including the Grade 1 Paddy Power Dial-a-bet Chase at Leopardstown in December 2014. Ivan Grozny was another Mullins-trained winner and he won good prizes over hurdles and fences.
Jeff Kidder (2021) won here in 2021 after stunning the Cheltenham crowd with an 80-1 success in the Fred Winter Hurdle. It was the longest priced winner at the Festival meeting for thirty years. He showed there was no fluke about that victory and went on to add the Grade 1 Champion Four-year- old Hurdle at Punchestown.

The Fred Winter Handicap Hurdle at Cheltenham has supplied five of the last eleven winners of this race. Jeff Kidder (2021) won both races and the other four had been unplaced at Prestbury Park. Six of the eleven ran at the Punchestown Festival in the Champion Four-year-old Hurdle next time with only Jeff Kidder prevailing.

There have been two successful favourites and one winning joint-favourite in the past eleven seasons; Slowmotion (2016) at 2-1, Saglawy (2018) at 13-8 and Project Bluebook (2017) at 9-2 Joint- favourite. The longest priced winner during that time was Enjoy The Dream (2023) at 33-1 while One Fine Day (2013) returned at 16-1 for Jessica Harrington.
