Jump Racing Fixtures 2027: Full UK National Hunt Racing Calendar

British Jump racing has 556 scheduled fixtures in 2027, providing a full year of National Hunt action from the traditional winter programme through the spring festivals, summer jumping and into the major autumn meetings.

The 2027 Jump fixture list contains five fewer meetings than the 561 scheduled for 2026. The reduction is relatively small compared with the overall scale of the calendar, with the biggest National Hunt meetings retaining their familiar positions.

The Cheltenham Festival takes place from Tuesday 16 March to Friday 19 March 2027, followed by the Grand National meeting at Aintree from Thursday 8 April to Saturday 10 April.

Jump racing then continues through the spring and summer before the traditional autumn programme gathers momentum again in October and November.

Major Jump Racing Dates in 2027

Several dates immediately stand out in the 2027 National Hunt calendar.

Cheltenham Festival: 16-19 March 2027

The four-day Cheltenham Festival remains the centrepiece of the British Jump season.

Racing takes place at Cheltenham Racecourse on:

The Festival builds towards the Cheltenham Gold Cup on the Friday and includes the Champion Hurdle, Queen Mother Champion Chase and many of the season’s leading novice and staying contests.

Grand National Festival: 8-10 April 2027

Aintree stages its three-day Grand National meeting on:

Saturday is Grand National day.

The Grand National remains one of the most watched horse races in Britain and attracts interest well beyond the regular National Hunt audience.

Scottish Grand National

Ayr’s major spring Jump meeting follows the Grand National period and includes the Scottish Grand National.

Ayr is scheduled to race over jumps on Friday 16 April and Saturday 17 April, making this one of the key weekends immediately after Aintree.

Jump Finale at Sandown

Sandown stages Jump racing on Saturday 24 April, the traditional point at which attention turns towards the conclusion of the main British Jump season.

Jump racing itself does not stop. A separate programme continues throughout the spring and summer.

Autumn Jump Racing

The intensity increases again from October.

Chepstow stages Jump fixtures on 8, 9 and 10 October, while Cheltenham returns on 22 and 23 October.

Aintree follows on 24 October, with major fixtures at Wetherby, Ascot, Newbury, Haydock and Cheltenham building towards Christmas.

King George VI Chase: Boxing Day

Kempton Park races on Sunday 26 December 2027, with Boxing Day once again forming one of the highlights of the winter.

The King George VI Chase is one of Britain’s most important staying chases and a major target for horses heading towards the Cheltenham Gold Cup.

Boxing Day alone features Jump racing at Kempton, Fontwell, Aintree, Market Rasen, Wetherby and Wincanton.

Kempton’s King George VI Chase is the headline event, while Chepstow’s Christmas programme features the Welsh Grand National.

Why Are There Fewer Jump Fixtures in 2027?

The BHA has scheduled 556 Jump meetings for 2027, compared with 561 in 2026.

That represents a reduction of five fixtures.

Across British racing as a whole, the fixture list has fallen from 1,458 scheduled meetings in 2026 to 1,440 in 2027.

The number of races is not expected to fall by the same amount. Some racecourses have deferred fixtures and redistributed races across their remaining meetings.

The debate goes beyond the calendar itself.

British racing has been dealing with a declining horse population while also trying to protect prize money, media-rights revenue, levy income and the economics of racehorse ownership.

Reducing the fixture list significantly could improve field sizes and ease pressure on participants, but fewer races can also mean less revenue flowing into the sport.

For 2027, the BHA has chosen to keep the overall volume of racing relatively stable.

What About Towcester Racecourse in 2027?

Towcester is particularly important when looking at this calendar.

The racecourse is working towards the return of professional National Hunt racing after an absence stretching back to 2018.

However, Towcester’s proposed fixtures are not included in the BHA’s initial published 2027 fixture list.

That distinction matters.

The current plan is for six National Hunt fixtures during the 2027/28 season, with the first proposed fixture on 20 October 2027, but the return remains subject to the necessary BHA approval and racecourse licensing.

We will therefore add Towcester to the main calendar only when those fixtures become part of the official BHA schedule.

Winter Jump Racing

The traditional winter period remains the heart of British National Hunt racing.

October through March provides the greatest concentration of high-quality hurdle and chase racing.

Cheltenham, Aintree, Kempton, Newbury, Ascot, Haydock, Sandown, Wetherby and Chepstow are among the courses that become increasingly important during this period.

Ground conditions also become a much greater influence.

Soft and heavy ground can place considerably more emphasis on stamina, while jumping efficiency becomes increasingly important when horses tire.

Understanding the horse racing going is therefore essential when analysing winter races.

Summer Jump Racing

National Hunt racing continues well beyond the traditional winter season.

Courses including Newton Abbot, Worcester, Stratford, Cartmel, Market Rasen, Uttoxeter and Perth provide much of Britain’s summer jumping.

These meetings can produce a very different style of racing.

Faster ground often increases the importance of tactical speed and accurate jumping. Horses that struggle through deep winter ground can improve significantly when returning to a sounder surface.

Course configuration matters too.

Cartmel bears little resemblance to Newbury, while Newton Abbot presents a different tactical test from Cheltenham.

That is why previous course form remains relevant when assessing Jump runners.
