Tudhope produced his mount with a perfectly timed challenge at the furlong pole to beat Gordon Lord Byron by three-quarters of a length.
Laurens was one of the most popular mares in training. Karl Burke’s daughter of Siyouni finished runner-up in the 1000 Guineas at Newmarket before winning twice in France.
Tudhope rode her to win the Matron Stakes at Leopardstown before following up in the Sun Chariot Stakes. He needed to be at his strongest to repel the persistent challenge of Happily by a head.
