flat racing fixtures 2027

Flat Racing Fixtures 2027: Full UK Flat Racing Calendar

The 2027 Flat racing fixtures have been published, with 884 Flat meetings currently scheduled across Britain.

The calendar consists of 550 Flat turf fixtures and 334 all-weather fixtures, giving racing fans action throughout the year.

The biggest change comes at the beginning of the turf season.

Bath Racecourse will stage Britain’s first turf Flat meeting of 2027 on Good Friday, 26 March, while Doncaster’s traditional Lincoln meeting takes place the following weekend on Saturday 3 and Sunday 4 April.

From there, the Flat season moves through the 2,000 and 1,000 Guineas at Newmarket, the Chester May Festival, York’s Dante Festival, the Derby at Epsom, Royal Ascot, the July Festival, Glorious Goodwood, York’s Ebor Festival and the St Leger Festival before the major autumn meetings.

British Flat racing does not stop when the turf season ends. All-weather racing continues throughout the winter at courses including Kempton, Lingfield, Newcastle, Southwell, Wolverhampton and, subject to licensing, Chelmsford City.

This page contains the complete scheduled British Flat racing calendar for 2027.

Fixtures can change during the year because of abandonments, transfers and other circumstances, so always check the latest racecourse information before travelling.

When Does the 2027 Flat Turf Season Start?

The 2027 Flat turf season starts at Bath Racecourse on Friday 26 March 2027.

This represents a change to the traditional shape of the opening weeks.

Bath’s Good Friday fixture starts the turf campaign before Musselburgh stages Flat racing on Saturday 27 March.

Redcar follows on Monday 29 March.

The famous Lincoln meeting at Doncaster Racecourse then takes place on Saturday 3 and Sunday 4 April.

The change gives the opening of the turf season a different look in 2027.

2027 Flat Racecourse Guides

British Racecourses has dedicated guides to the tracks appearing throughout the 2027 Flat calendar.

Some of the most important include:

Ascot | Ayr | Bath | Beverley | Brighton | Carlisle | Catterick | Chester | Doncaster | Epsom | Goodwood | Haydock | Kempton | Lingfield | Newbury | Newcastle | Newmarket | Sandown | Southwell | York.

We also have guides to Britain’s smaller Flat tracks, which can be found through our main UK racecourses directory.

2027 Racecourse Betting Tips

Fixture pages are particularly useful when combined with our racecourse-specific tipping coverage.

British Racecourses publishes dedicated betting-tip pages for many British racecourses, allowing readers to move from planning when a course races to finding relevant selections on race days.

Examples include our Kempton Park betting tips and other racecourse-specific tipping pages across the site.

This is an important distinction.

The fixture calendar tells you where and when racing takes place.

The individual tipping pages can then provide the current race-day analysis when fields, going, draw and prices are known.

Flat Turf Racing vs All-Weather Racing in 2027

The 2027 Flat calendar combines two different forms of racing.

Turf Flat Racing

There are 550 scheduled turf Flat fixtures.

The turf season begins at Bath on 26 March and contains Britain’s major Classics, championship races and summer festivals.

Courses such as Ascot, Newmarket, York, Goodwood, Doncaster and Epsom stage many of the most prestigious races.

All-Weather Flat Racing

There are 334 scheduled all-weather fixtures.

All-weather racing provides year-round Flat action, particularly during the winter months.

Our all-weather racecourses guide explains the different synthetic tracks in Britain.

Why Are There Fewer Fixtures in 2027?

British racing has reduced the overall fixture list from 1,458 meetings in 2026 to 1,440 in 2027.

That is a reduction of 18 fixtures.

The change comes against the background of a declining British racehorse population and continuing debate over field sizes, competitiveness and the overall volume of racing.

However, reducing the number of fixtures does not mean the number of races will fall by the same amount.

Some racecourses have deferred fixture dates while redistributing races across their remaining cards.

That should mean fewer short six-race meetings while retaining broadly similar overall race numbers.

The debate is important because fixture volume also affects media-rights and betting-levy income, which ultimately contributes towards prize money and investment in British racing.

Chelmsford City Fixtures Remain Subject to Licensing

There is an important qualification concerning Chelmsford City.

The initial fixture list states that BHA fixtures allocated to Chelmsford City are subject to the racecourse obtaining a racecourse licence.

We have therefore included the currently allocated Chelmsford fixtures in this calendar, but readers should be aware of that condition when planning ahead.

What Does Flat Venue TBC Mean?

Several dates in the initial fixture list contain a Flat Venue TBC allocation.

This means a Flat fixture is scheduled for that date but the racecourse has not yet been confirmed in the published list.

We have deliberately retained these entries rather than guessing which course will eventually stage them.

Once the BHA confirms the venues, this page should be updated.

Planning a Day at the Races in 2027

The fixture calendar can be used in several ways.

Some racegoers will build their year around the major festivals.

Others may want to visit a local track on a summer evening.

Our day at the races newcomer guide covers what to expect, while our guide to racecourses you can reach by train can help with travel planning.

We also have guides covering the most historic racecourses in Britain and the most beautiful racecourses in Britain for anyone deciding where to visit next.

Betting on the 2027 Flat Season

The major Flat meetings naturally attract significant betting interest.

Racecourse-specific tipping pages should be the first port of call for our current selections because they can incorporate the final declarations, going, draw, pace and latest prices.

For readers deciding where to place their bets, our independently reviewed horse racing betting sites compare bookmakers for racing bettors.

It is worth comparing prices rather than automatically using the same bookmaker for every bet.

A small difference in odds becomes increasingly important over a full Flat season.

Summary

The 2027 British Flat racing calendar currently contains 884 fixtures, split between 550 turf meetings and 334 all-weather meetings.

Bath starts the turf season on Good Friday, 26 March, before Doncaster stages the Lincoln meeting on 3 and 4 April.

The season then builds rapidly.

Newmarket stages the Guineas, Chester holds its May Festival, York hosts the Dante meeting, Epsom stages the Derby Festival and Royal Ascot dominates June.

The summer continues through Newmarket’s July Festival, the King George meeting at Ascot, Glorious Goodwood and York’s Ebor Festival before Doncaster’s St Leger meeting leads into the autumn championship programme.

All-weather racing ensures the Flat calendar continues throughout the winter.

The initial 2027 fixture list also contains several Flat fixtures where the venue remains to be confirmed, while Chelmsford City’s allocations are subject to licensing.

We will update this calendar as further details are confirmed.

For racegoers, the fixture list provides the framework for planning the year.

For bettors, it provides something equally valuable: a map of when Britain’s biggest races, festivals and racecourse meetings take place, allowing you to move from the calendar into our individual racecourse guides, festival coverage and dedicated racecourse tipping pages as each meeting approaches.
